I was lucky enough to meet Peewee aka Paul R. about 15 years ago or so. It was at our friends amazing home tiki bar, the Hale Kahiki in LA. We heard he was coming to the party and midway through the party, I was sitting at the tiki bar talking to Alan who was making drinks and I looked to my left and he sat down next to me. Someone had told him I carved a few things in the tiki bar so he asked what I helped with. He was very low key and super nice. I was expecting his zany Peewee side to come out but to my surprise, he was just a super sweet, funny and calm smart dude! He friended me on Facebook the Monday after and sent me a nice message, and we talked here and there over the years. We talked over the pandemic and he wanted to do a project with me, and sadly, I didn’t act on it soon enough before we lost him. He was such an inspiration for me growing up… his show was unlike anything I had ever seen. It combined a wacky world of vintage and surreal characters that I absolutely loved, as did so many kids my age at the time. Paul was famous for texting his freinds on their bday and sending them funny memes all day long… and we happened to share the same bday, so it was extra special for me! I happened to go to school with a kid who was on his show, and I got to help re connect them also. Well, I love Peewee and all he stood for in creativity and kindness! I drew this after meeting him in the tiki bar and texted it to him, and he gave me his blessing to sell them! He loved artwork tributes to his character! He had a whole section on his website!
